BeeS
Status: Endangered
ABOUT
These furry black and yellow beauties feed solely upon flowers and are one of the most important animals in our eco-system. Sadly, the bee population has been decreasing since the decline of countryside flowers, starting in the 1950s, with a total of 93% of flower-rich meadows lost since 1937. A significant cause is agriculture becoming more and more mechanised because of the high demand for large quantities of cheap food.
It would be easy to blame farmers for the decline of bees since agriculture accounts for around 70% of UK land. But they are under pressure from corporations and supermarkets that demand perfect produce, resulting in landowners having to meet the demands with the use of artificial fertilisers. Ever-growing cheap food is pushing farm gates prices below the unit cost of production. With the only choices being bankruptcy or meeting corporate demands, it is understandable that farmers are forced to farm in a modern manner. However, this decision is leading to a decrease in wildlife on farmlands.
We aim to spread awareness about the tragic decline of bee populations worldwide and to help reverse this trend by donating part of our proceeds to a charity dedicated to the conservation and protection of bees.
