Conservation

Animals need a place to call home just as we do. That is why Born Free protects threatened habitats, working with locals to conserve existing sites and create new ones. This is key because an animal needs to have the right environment in order to thrive and produce offspring, continuing their lifecycle as mother nature intended.

Rescue & Care

Born Free rescues individuals from appalling captive conditions and those that are sick or injured in the wild. We rehabilitate each one, giving expert, loving care, releasing individuals to the wild whenever possible or giving lifetime care in spacious sanctuaries. Supporting local sanctuaries worldwide we work together to put the spring back into the animals’ steps!

Anti-Captivity

Millions of wild animals are exploited in captivity for human ‘entertainment’. Born Free is the voice for captive animals worldwide and challenges the multi-billion-pound global zoo industry. They investigate and expose cruelty and suffering, campaign for tighter legislation, publish ground-breaking reports and work to phase-out zoos, circuses and dolphinaria.

Policy

Born Free works with wildlife colleagues to inform and persuade decision-makers and improve legislation. Their high-profile campaigns take action for welfare and conservation whether fighting the ivory trade and ‘sport’ hunting, opposing killing wild animals for ‘bushmeat’, or challenging the exploitation of wild animals in zoos, circuses and as pets, Born Free takes action on the frontline.

Education

Working with the next generation is key to the long-term work of the Foundation and the animals they protect. They teach children in schools in the UK, Ethiopia, Kenya, and South Africa about the dangers animals face and what can be done to protect them. They help the next generation  continue the legacy of the Foundation and by showing them how to respect wildlife and co-exist with animals without causing them harm.

Sustainability

As we all know, sustainability is a key factor for the survival of many animal species, our own included. The aim is to create as little impact as possible on the planet. So with that in mind they are working on reducing their environmental and global warming footprint around the world. To make this possible they need the support of the local communities they work with. The special partnerships formed between the locals and Born Free make the goals achievable for a sustainable planet.

A word from our founder…

“We chose the Born Free Foundation as one of our partners because we share the same values and ethics towards the environment which makes our partnership a special one! At the moment, BRND & Co. have pledged the African Elephant, Bornean Orangutan and Black Rhino to Born Free as well as a very special one to them, the Lion. This beautiful animal has been the face of their logo since 1984 exuberating pride and strength (especially after the year we have all had!). For us, it shows the courageousness of the king as well as having the gentlest of touches just like our organic cotton does on your skin.”
